A small seaside settlement located South East of Auckland. The area is made up of Beachlands and Maraetai with Whitford and Clevedon being surrounding suburbs. Whitford is 10 minutes away heading towards Howick, while Clevedon is 15 minutes away heading towards Papakura. We have a population of about 5,000, and this is growing as other areas are becoming more built up and the attraction of Beachlands and Maraetai has risen quite rapidly as quiet, rural and marine lifestyle villages with easy access to the city centres. Beachlands and Maraetai are twin settlements and are located just 15 minutes from Howick, 20 minutes from Manukau and Papatoetoe, 30 minutes from the Airport and 45 minutes from Auckland City. We are also just a 5 minute drive away from Formosa Country Club, which consists of a world class Bob Charles designed golf course, luxury 5 star accommodation, gym, pool and convention centre. Adjacent to the Formosa County Club is the Pine Harbour Marina, complete with berths, public boat ramp, boat builders, electrical and marine engineers, liquor store, café, water sport’s shop and various other facilities. Pine Harbour also operates a very popular ferry service to Downtown Auckland, Rakino and Waiheke. The ferry is a huge benefit for our city commuters who wish to avoid the motorway’s peak hour traffic, parking hassles and want to arrive fresh and unstressed.
Both Beachlands and Maraetai have a Primary/Intermediate School that caters from new entrants (year 1) to form 2 (year 8). The Beachlands School roll presently stands at approximately 450, while Maraetai Beach School has approximately 235 students. If your children are College age, then we have a free school bus that will take them to colleges in Howick. Pre school children are well catered for as well with a Kindergarten in Maraetai, Play centre and Day Care Centre in Beachlands, a Montessori Childcare and a Child Daycare centre in Whitford.
Beachlands may only be a small seaside suburb, but one thing we do have apart from our gorgeous beaches is a very dedicated shopping centre. This consists of: A small supermarket, a superette/dairy, liquor store, bakery, 3 take-away shops, Video Ezy, Post and Lotto shop, Kiwi Bank, craft and flower shop, hairdresser, café/restaurant, butcher, delicatessen, and Harcourts Beachlands Real Estate, most of these outlets being open seven days a week. Just down the road we have a building hardware store, a panel beater and an engineering work shop. Along with a Medical Centre, a Police Station and a Library, most of the day to day needs of our community are well catered for. Maraetai, Whitford and Clevedon have small shopping centres and speciality shops as well.
We have many clubs in the area, and they are always on the lookout for new members - no matter what age you are - young or old there is something for everyone, you can take your pick from: sailing, rugby, soccer, tennis, athletics, netball, aerobics, indoor and outdoor bowling, scouts, girl guides, cubs, arts and crafts, Probus, garden circle, St John’s, Civil Defence, Senior Citizens Club, Toastmasters or even a Rifle Club. With the opening of the Te Puru Community Sports Facility in April the list of activities will grow even longer. This magnificent complex set on 17 hectares of sporting grounds will boast tennis courts, a YMCA run gym, an international standard indoor netball court, badminton courts, conference and function rooms, cafe and bar. If equestrian is what you are into then there are Pony Clubs at Beachlands and Whitford with wonderful bridle paths in the area and Polo grounds at nearby Clevedon.
In our opinion Beachlands and Maraetai has more to offer than many towns twice our size, but best of all we are still a community.
